Damn load choices!

Well i've backtracked yet again.

Its either the .308 win or the .260 rem.

Either I have superior ballistic performance or the safety of knowing my ammo supply wouldn't dry up. Decisions decisions.....

To decide (again) I have to ask myself questions... hmmmm ok.

1. Do both calibers coincide with the parameters set for the "ultimate" sniping system?
........ almost. In question to the armor defeating capabilities.

The 308 win does have loads available that would be able to defeat soft armor BUT those loads aren't available to the public and would have to be loaded at home. I can have the same results with the 260 rem and not have to deal with loading my own, even though i'd have to later on anyway so why not just have the flatter shooting caliber in the first place?

2. Ammo availability and practicing. Can it be done?
......sure ...... maybe..

This is a tough one. The entire civilized world and some parts of space know about the 308 winchester. Brass, bullets, various loads, package deals, parts pertaining to, and hell even lesser informed shooters all cater to the 308 win. The 260 rem? Well not so much.

I'm gonna have to think about this one for a while. It seems more questions have to be asked.

Specs, Parts, and Goals

The sniping rig has finally reached a happy conclusion. I have chosen the 260 rem as my cartridge of choice and am going to take full advantage of it by using a 20" barrel.

Features & Specifications
Caliber: 260. REM
Magazine Capacity: 20 Rounds (using gen2 magazines)
Overall Length: 38"-40"
Barrel Length: 20”
Barrel Profile: Krieger Blank profiled to 20" SPR

Semi-Automatic

The parts list is separated into different groups so I can keep my sanity spending that much cash.

THE LOWER:
  1. Jason's new CNC'd lower available in limited quantities at CNCGUNS.com
  2. Armalite Gen2 magazines. (duhh)
  3. Geissele DMR rifle trigger.
  4. Armalite lower parts kit without trigger. Armalite Part# EA6085
  5. Carbine buffer tube. Armalite Part# EA2010
  6. Slash's Ar10 buffer. Ar15.com

  8. Tangodown's Carbine sling mount
  9. LMT crane stock
  10. Hogue pistol grip
  11. J&L research trigger adjuster grip screw.
  12. Crane stock sling swivel adapter.
Wow thats quite a list.... lets move on.

THE UPPER:

  4. PRI flip up front sight gas block.

Almost there. Now for the optics.

  2. Butler creek flip up scope covers
  3. ARMS #22 throw lever rings with TRC and TRR
  4. Monoloc with adapters
  5. Pvs14
  6. AN/PEQ2
Phew!!! I think the last 3 of that list will have to wait. Its just a tad bit on the pricey/rare side.
Hmmm. Now i wonder... what other list is left?

THE "OTHER" LIST:
  1. Pelican 1750 (complete with dedicated cleaning kit and assortment of replacement parts).
  2. Black Hills 139 gn Lapua HP (on-hand quantities shouldn't dip below 500 rounds)
  3. Specter SOP sling. (universal model)

Thats all I can think of for now. If I get any more ideas then I'll edit the list.

The SAR show and the Sniping rig

Well its about that time again. The SAR show has rolled around and its time to make my trek to Arizona. This time though there will be something on my wish list.......

I've decided on the sniping system. It will be an AR10 based mk-12 mod-0. Hmmmmmm tasty!

This one here is from edwin907 off of ARFCOM. Now imagine the same rifle with an AR10 action. Mine shall be a slightly scaled up version. I remember I made a parts list to start collecting. So first things first. MAGS!!! Lots of mags! I figure ten mags will get me started. But where to look?

I found a deal of the forums and its a doozy.

http://www.armalite.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=AR10+20R+MAG+5P&Category=9f794ab0-7a08-44e0-85d2-34f1832de5ea

Yup thats right, Armalite is having a sale! (this is the part where I hop gingerly up and down while snickering in a high pitched voice) heeheeheeheeheeheehee!!!!!

For about 300 dollars plus shipping I'll have the mags and cross another thing off my list.
I'll post the specs and parts list in my next post.
