Crap a year has gone by!

I had almost completely forgotten that I had a blog in the first place! Let me run down the reasons I've been too busy to update the blog1. I have a full time job.2. I have a full time family.3. I have a life!But seriously I've been seeing a lot of things that I probably should have posted. for example....I went to SHOT show, saw a great deal of vendors, mfg's, and wholesalers excited to get my business.I got about 10 pairs of surefire ear-pros for free there. Those plugs are great.Project urban sniper has had 440 rounds through it so far. a thing of beauty. pay no attention to the rig to its left but i did build that for around 50 bucks, camelback included.

I've been talking with a fellow gunner and we put our heads together for a new project. I don't want to bring madness in terms of you guys asking me questions about time lines and crap like that so I'll just say this. 338 lapua, mag fed, bolt action upper, AR accessories galore.

J-crew. I've actually halted tests cause I'm going to be selling soon! I've built an eCommerce site withONLY the best in clothing and gear. But the problem is i cant do anymore reviews until i have all my vendors lined up. I have to keep this fair. and believe me when i say I would never push crap!Prototyping brings perspective onto things and while I was playing around with plastic i thought why not build a 45?

Well I cant promise that I'll update regularly, and i cant promise that I'll post all of my projects but.....wait there are no buts. I cant guarantee anything!

Project "a-crew": a short on jackets.

A while back I wrote about urban clothing with tactical uses.
I found several useful types of clothing and learned that most
of us already know what works.

First off let me say that I don't see myself using really
expensive pieces of clothing. I can understand the benefits
and the necessety that these items provide sometimes so don't
give me crap about it. Let me just start on what I've messed
with.

Jackets:
I've settled on the blackwater spec ops jacket. Out of all
the jackets I've been using it gave the most amount of utility
while still looking really good. It's becomming my go to jacket
when the weather turns bad.

Some background. I've tried the thick patrol jackets and the
patrol jackets with thinsulate pile on the liner. They are
pretty rugged and lite but get in the way when you reach for
anything, get wet if you stay in the rain to long, and just
feel wierd. Not something I want to wear too long.

Athletic type thin jackets. A step in the right direction
but still cuts it short...... Way short! Even when layering
it doesn't even cut it as a top layer. And if I was going to
use it for cold weather that I knew I was going to work in
I'd wear a long sleeve shirt and pop on a windbreaker after.
Or wear that blackhawk jacket!

It is pretty sweet. If your carrying it lays over your sidearm
nicely, so you don't print as much. Doesn't work much for
bigger fellas but then again what does. I have a lot of portly
friends so I get to say that!
One gripe I have with the spec-ops jacket is the lack of a
hood, and a dump pouch style pocket up front. Other than that
the zippers seal themselves after you close them, the top
material sheds water like a ducks ass, and the material on
the inside won't get me too hot when I start running around.

This is the beginning of my "A-crew" tactical clothing review.
My next one will be on footwear. I've tried a few here and
there. Timberlands, bates, and the usual milspec stuff along
with some newbalance, and Nike sneakers just to mix it up a
bit. I'm not quite there yet but when I figure it out
you'll be the first to know.

Teaching the next generation

The other day I took four kids to the range. Ages ranging from 8 to 24. Three of them shooting for the first time, the other shooting for the second time. I gave them the basics on safety, and proper shooting technique. And I got them all shooting steel at 500yards.

I'm so damn proud!

They used the 308. Well..... All except for the 8 year old,
she used the 223.

Ya know, I've built many a rifle in my day and ya know what?
I felt as though I've accomplished more in this one day then
I ever had learning this stuff in the first place.

Well a new idea hit me today. I caught a glimpse of a movie with Russel Crow and there was this scene where some guy pops an AR together, gets dressed in some bdu's and goes off to kill Russell Crow.... In the city....... I thought WTF!?! Why would anyone get dressed in bdu's to go do some dirty work..... In the goddam city!?!

Ya see kids this is why I don't watch movies that often. Some jackass comes up with the concept of curving bullets and WAM! They make the movie "wanted"! Which by the way I will never watch. Or "titanic". Or the "twilight" series.

But getting back to the point I thought why isn't there a better way of dressing appropriatly for a night on the town? Someones gotta think up something right?

And so begins my next project, project "Urban Outfitterrrr......wait. I can't use that. How bout project "A.crew"! Kinda like J.crew but not gay! :)

Well the new year is almost here. Projects Have come and gone but I'm still left with many questions.
- should I consider building a single stack 1911 for 3gun?
- should I further improve my current rifles for matches yet to come?
- should I just start hoarding ammo?
There's a lot on my plate for the comming year. In fact my next idea was a ultimate midrange rifle. Something in the 6.8 spc family.
Yeah I'm sorry I'm not goin with the Grendel. It seems the spc has won the battle. I am afraid of loading issues which has been seen at the long range matches.

Project Urban Sniper: Complete

After a long while of talking, planning, gathering, machining, and procrastinating, my urban sniper is now complete. This one took a while to finish but I'm glad its over. Some of you may be wondering "Hey! This guy promised perfection!" I'll tell you this much kids, perfection lies not in the part but in the whole. A 260 rem may make a better shooting rifle, but since i wouldn't be shooting it as much it would take out of me learning to be a better shooter, and that my friends is what separates safe queen hoarders and those who want to progress in their craft.

Well thats enough bullshit. On with the pics!Yes! Those are 5 lowers ready for the anodizers. And how pretty they looked when they came back. After the rifle was assembled, tested, sexually assualted, and put away, it was time to really test it. Which takes us to..............

The Mojave Desert. A cruel bitch when it comes to weather conditions. But not when shooting is involved! Its like Disneyland......... But with guns!!!
All the guys came down for Randall's class. The drive was okay.

After setting up and breifing it was time to shoot.The guys had some pretty nice rigs, almost all of them were bolt actions.
Mine however was not quite the norm. I went with a collapsible stock for mobility and surprisingly enough the recoil was less than a full size buffer in an A2 stock.shooter to my right. Howdy!shooter to my left. Nice AICS stock. several shooters had aics stocks on their rigs that day.Randall was spotting for the first half of the shoot. We zeroed at 100. and took down the come ups for several targets between 250 and 1005 yards.
these were the 100 yard targets at the bottom there. im not even going to attempt to show any target beyond 600 yards. Way to far! But me being the only inexperienced long range shooter there, the other shooters had to direct me to the targets. Wow it was far!Amongst the 100yard targets the first one was the pool ball target. You had to shoot stripes or solids when the round started and short time to complete it. The winner of the match and his rig. He did pretty damn good. He did get a stuck casing off a bad round. But that didnt stop him at all. He got a camel-bak from another shooter for winning. Thats the other thing about the guys I shoot with, all a bunch of class-acts!And there I am. In all my glory! Well thats it for this rite up. I will be taking this puppy to test at a 3-gun match so i'll take pics of that one.

Seems that when you're close to completing something the last bit of it just seems so friggin long. The last bit of oxidizing, anodizing, engraving, and testing is about to take place. Sticking to .308 was painful for me, but if i'm going to be shooting with other people then there is no other choice. I hope one day the .260 rem will get the respect it deserves, but till then, make mine a 308.

Well it was time to try out the upper. So off I went to "A place to shoot". My first time there it was small compared to "West End" over in Fontana, But was still nice though.

My buddy brought her over. Mind you she still aint done so don't give me any $hit.
That Leupold has a Premier Reticles Gen2 reticle, it looks awesome.

Picture aint that clear but you can kinda see the hash marks between the dots...... Well no I guess you can't. I'll get a better pic later.

My buddy prepares to drill the gas port larger. Damn thing was short stroking as soon as I put the Sass gasblock on.

The green circled ones are the first few shots while I was testing the cycling of the upper. The red circled groups are what I was zeroing with. After I get the barrel painted I'll do a final zero and do my best at printing a small group.

And here's one more pic. Yup she's almost there, just a few more parts to go.

Decisions Decisions

Well the AR10 project is almost complete and it seems that I'm back to square one! What I ended up building was an Armalite Super SASS! Hmmmmm, not so great for the "ultimate" urban sniper rifle. Don't get me wrong, .308 is the perfect round in the long run, but as for perfect its far off. My parameters were clear when it came to what I wanted out of this rifle, and it does meet the standard. Only problem is there are rifles that already meet this standard and thats not what I'm about....

I'm about exceeding expectations.

SO!!!!..... I've got to start thinking of a new upper, rather a new caliber.

Theres the 7mm wsm. It shoots flat and has enough energy at the longer ranges for good knock down power. The 338 RCM. The same external ballistics as the 168gr 308 win but with a 225gr bullet. Hmmmm. This requires more thought.

Anyway, Been trying to get in shape for the Run N' Gun N' the Sun event down in Texas. Heres roughly what i'm trying to go for.......

Yeah laugh it up, but I'll get there. Just need to cut out my daily intake of bacon and twinkies!

Another thought. A good 3-gun combo. I was thinking a benelli, an mk23, and an AR10. Obviously I'm thinking heavy metal class. (excuse the ar15 pic, just use your imagination)

But heres the kicker, This combo isn't a true heavy metal class. "why" you ask? Well for one thing the optics not allowed, the pistol has to be single stack, and the shotgun has to be pump! What a load of crap! What old fatass came up with this rule? Theres nothing remotly realistic or tactical about those restrictions.

Oh in other news. I've got a pic of the new LMT 308. Its by SMGLee from the Arfcom forums. (credit where its due). I just had to show it.

SEXY!!! The only problem I see with it would be the lack of different caliber barrels...... Which only LMT can make! weak. I mean cmon, your gonna make a propriatary quick change barrel and only offer one, maybe two calibers and different lengths? LAME!!!! Like I'm Gonna burn a 308 so fast I'd need the quick change feature. Otherwise a very sexy rifle.

Oh a little heads up for those coverting an AR10t upper into a sass one. It seems that...

1. The gas port on the barrel has to be drilled bigger. (no duhhh)

2. The sass gastube is shorter! (whaaaaaa!!!!)

Let me show you!

Yes yes, I measured again and again. Thats not an optical illusion, the gas tube is straight. And yes it didnt go as far into the receiver. But hey, it works anyway.

With the scare of a new assualt weapons ban looming on the horizon, demand and prices have risen greatly. There are only a few more parts to go before i'm done but this is crazy. Prices have almost tripled across the board. And there are some sleazy retailers out there taking advantage of us shooters. I've also seen ads on popular forums with the same type of overly inflated prices. This type of behavior is disgusting.

I just hope that shooters out there dont get desperate and pay these shysters.

My rant on Reality Television

Ever since the first "Survivor" episode all those years ago I thought that reality based TV was supposed to be a valid replacement for the unbelievable plots, boring shtick, and redundant cliche's that had plaqued television since the god awful 80's.

Now I'm sitting here watching even more cliche's, shtick, and absolutly no plot at all. No story to be told. No happy or sad ending. No morals to be taught. Just a bunch of hateable characters, an evil producer running the show, and some jackass on a synthesizer making up crappy music as the show progresses. Theres so much to hate for todays reality TV programming that I've automatically written off the entire decade as being the 80"s all over again.

And if your still wondering....... YES...... I did hate the 80's!!!!!

There was so much potential. But the powers that be decided that good storytelling wasn't true entertainment anymore. They decided that my life would be enriched by watching "the hills". All of that drama! WOW! Watching other people in petty squabbles over and over and over and over again. Like I didnt see that on a daily basis by the mental defects that surround me. And then a review of the show???? With an audience? WTF???!!?!?

What the hell is wrong here?

For a long time I meant to give this blueprint to everyone else but never had the time, or energy, or will, hell I never even wanted to.... I was THAT lazy! But It seems that I haven't given back as much as I should have so here it is.

I modified the plans for an MKI receicer into an MKII. I know its not much but now everyone can have the file for their collections. Enjoy.

A new combo.

A while back I was thinking of setting up firearms to compliment each other. IE: each firearm accomplishes a different task towards an overall scenario. Granted no one can pick the best combo and you can only really come close to it. And of course no one should be picking firearm combos before actually knowing what they're getting into. With that being said here is my perfect combo......... for this week.

I got this pick from Zack Smith's website. Sorry but it was the only place I could find the configuration I liked (7.62 and long handguard for "integral" look suppressor). I would love the masada in 7.62x39. The ammo and mags are cheap and plentiful. True that I could have picked a regular AKM and have been done with it but the top rail just makes for better mounting options.
Oh and forget the 6.8 spc. Dont even mention that round here. If it actually makes it down to a dime a round then I'll consider it in an AR15. Till then its all about the Masada.

I've ordered Spike tacticals newest offering, the 37mm havok launcher! I've ordered the stand alone version for now and will later upgrade to an underbarrel version.

Well the shot show came and went. And Arfconians this year where treated to a lot of shot show pics. Here are some I found quite interesting.

lets begin with this one

there is the matech adjustment base for the aimpoint micro. its like a mini elcan

oh and heres is magpuls tactical lunchbox! Notice the glock slide. I was thinking that it wouldnt take much to machine a folding grip/stock combo for a regular glock. And with the Sig p250 out it wouldnt be that hard for home machinists to try something similar out!

And last but not least it seems that the 5.7 AR15 upper has somehow revived itself. I hope the same problems that killed the first incantation of the 5.7 upper doesn't kill this one.

Well lets get back to regular pics I can pine over. An mrp with a regular car stock and it looks good? Who would've thought?
Now I don't think this is what Magpul had intended when they where drawing up the UBR design.

Well i've backtracked yet again.

Its either the .308 win or the .260 rem.

Either I have superior ballistic performance or the safety of knowing my ammo supply wouldn't dry up. Decisions decisions.....

To decide (again) I have to ask myself questions... hmmmm ok.

1. Do both calibers coincide with the parameters set for the "ultimate" sniping system?
........ almost. In question to the armor defeating capabilities.

The 308 win does have loads available that would be able to defeat soft armor BUT those loads aren't available to the public and would have to be loaded at home. I can have the same results with the 260 rem and not have to deal with loading my own, even though i'd have to later on anyway so why not just have the flatter shooting caliber in the first place?

2. Ammo availability and practicing. Can it be done?
......sure ...... maybe..

This is a tough one. The entire civilized world and some parts of space know about the 308 winchester. Brass, bullets, various loads, package deals, parts pertaining to, and hell even lesser informed shooters all cater to the 308 win. The 260 rem? Well not so much.

I'm gonna have to think about this one for a while. It seems more questions have to be asked.

The SAR show and the Sniping rig

Well its about that time again. The SAR show has rolled around and its time to make my trek to Arizona. This time though there will be something on my wish list.......

I've decided on the sniping system. It will be an AR10 based mk-12 mod-0. Hmmmmmm tasty!

This one here is from edwin907 off of ARFCOM. Now imagine the same rifle with an AR10 action. Mine shall be a slightly scaled up version. I remember I made a parts list to start collecting. So first things first. MAGS!!! Lots of mags! I figure ten mags will get me started. But where to look?

As of late I've been thinking of an AR10 based 260 rem out of a 20 inch barrel.
Now some of you may be saying "why limit yourself to a 20 inch barrel"?
Well there is the weight and size constraint I placed on this system. But the ballistics of the 260 rem would still bust loads of ass out of a 20 inch barrel. Anything out of an ar15 would be hard pressed to keep up with that.

I have been thinking about stock and handguard selections. There is reasoning behind that as well. The stock must be collapsible. Having it this way saves on weight, and length obviously. the hanguard must be either a ARMS S.I.R or a PRI with a full length rail. Reason being they are the only intergrated solutions for mounting a long scope. Now you might be thinking what about a extended rail or a larue mount. Aint no Larue mount for what I'm mounting!

Oh! And about the whole AR10 thing. I know a bolt action would be loads lighter but a thought hit me. The system must be semi auto. If this was bolt action then there would be no discussion and I would be building a 338 lapua mag. But we're building a runner here. A quick setup and takedown rifle with flat ballistics and fast sight picture. Last thing I need is to do the math on something I could snap shoot. And if I miss......... well.... thats what the semi auto is for. A quick adjustment and pull of the trigger and the deed is done. Plus the 338lapua mag would cost 4 dollars a mistake. Not too great when your running and gunning. More details as they arise.

Why do I limit myself to that? Size and weight! There will be no 50bmg..... at all! Not even a ultra light weight upper for the ar15. Its not gonna happen. Well I'm getting off track. Now what Triggerfifty posted is what I'm going to post here. No Links here, just straight facts.

The beginning or the explanation behind the 338 vs. 408 vs. 50 BMG issue is explained in part, by my response to an individual asking about why I suggest a .338 Lapua over the .408 CheyTac for long range sniping. More will follow. Readers should know that I am a former owner and member of the 408 team. Specifically i was responsible for the development of military weapons systems and direct development of the CheyTac Advanced Ballistic Computer (ABC). I have since departed from that company, but feel the professional shooting community needs to understand the real issue behind the .408 gun system. Yes, it has the potential to be the best cutting edge long range gun, within certain boundries. SOE's website www.snipingoperation#####ecutive.org will continue to post these revelations about the .408 as I believe current company owners mislead potential military clients as to the capability of the .408. I will not stand for this and have the knowledge base to point out the differences on paper and on application. Any questions concerning this topic, please feel free to write me. Thanks for reading.

There are many "urban legends" of sniping, methods and techniques that have not been vetted in an operational environment, etc. These range from bad operational methods, to plain methods of cleaning that are not accurate or are misrepresented. It has been one of my long missions to dispel many of these myths: Here is only a couple.

1. Sweets cannot be left in a rifle barrel but for a few minutes, it will destroy the barrel. NOT TRUE. That formula ceased to exist in the early 60s. Routinely I will load a barrel full of sweets after removing carbon buildup, and poor out the excess Sweets and leave the barrel sit as long as overnight, then push a patch through the barrel, getting a huge blob of blue. The copper residue chemically reduced.

2. WD40 will harm your barrel, NOT TRUE.

3. Only push a brush the same direction as the bullet travels, NOT TRUE. This has nothing to do with anything.

Many times, “golden rules” or “urban legends” are generated out of an observed single event. Someone left Sweets in a barrel for days and days, it dried out, and the barrel rusted. That propagated into a rule of never leaving Sweets in a rifle barrel for a long period. When one trains dozens of sniper students in a years time, trends appear or don’t appear that are indicators of certain events. For example, the M-24 has shown to be far more durable than the M40A1 – M40A3 series rifles over the years. It is easier to maintain in the field, and in my own observations, the M24 is more accurate gun for gun.

Okay, on to your specific questions (338 vs. 408). I am one of the original owners and partners in Cheytac, the builders of the .408. My job specifically was the field testing and development of the platforms for military use. I shot the groups that the guns in those days were capable of. Over the years, a couple of partners left Cheytac because of bad management and personality issues. I left originally in 2003, and again in 2005, after a stint as a consultant to work on their semi-automatic gun, and their .308 SASS semi auto sniper backup gun. After working those systems for a few months, I tried to tell them the guns needed a major re-engineering, that they would never work in their current design. They were incredibly accurate, but could not function well. These were due to engineering flaws in the design of the recoil and ammunition feed mechanisms of both guns, as well as their gas systems.

The .408 is a great cartridge, but the "management" now makes claims that they cannot substantiate. I say this as a direct observation as well as seeing the impact of their misrepresentations on the US military. We are at war, and for the sake of money, I will not be a part of any of their type of management. CheyTac doesn’t have the internal talent or engineering brains they used to have. Those people have left, and now they have marketing guys, with no knowledge of the these systems or how to develop them.

Why the .338 Lapua is better. In combat sniping, the ability to strike a target at great range is more about the ability to address environmental and meteorological factors than it is the gun. The .408 without computer support is no better at 2000 yards than a 50 or a 338 Lapua. It is guess work for any of those guns. The above things are intangibles, here is real data:

Bullets and the cartridge make all the difference. The .338 270 gr. Lost River Ballistic Technologies J40 match bullet is the best .338 bullet in the world. It has a 2000 yard supersonic range in a gun that can push it to 2850 fps. (At this point, I’d advise against the AI .338 Lap Mag, it's the least capable of any of the guns out there, but they have great marketing guys and good brochures). The 250 gr. Scenar Lapua bullet only has a super sonic range of 1600 meters at 3000 fps.

At 2000 yards, the flight time for a 750 gr. AMAX out of a .50 and flight time is 3.6 seconds. Velocity at 2000 yards for the AMAX is 1153 fps, just barely supersonic. This means the projectile at 2000 yards moves about 3.8” for every 1 millisecond of time and range.

At 2000 yards, the flight time for a 338 Lapua at 2900 fps (their best speed) and the flight time is 3.4 seconds. Velocity at 2000 yards for the 270 gr. LRBT J40 round is 1159 fps, also, just barely supersonic. This means the projectile at 2000 yards moves about 4.1” for every 1 millisecond of time and range.

At 2000 yards, the flight time for a 408 CheyTac shooting the 419 gr. at 2900 fps and the flight time is 3.5 seconds. Velocity at 2000 yards for the 419 gr. LRBT J40 round is 1213 fps, also, just barely supersonic, but a little better. This means the projectile at 2000 yards moves about 4.4” for every 1 millisecond of time and range.

SUMMAY OF ABOVE DATA:

750 GR. .50 BMG AMAX @ 2000 yards, projectile is 1153 fps and covers 3.8” for 1 millisecond of flight.

338 Lapua 270 gr. LRBT J40 @ 2000 yards, projectile is 1159 fps and covers 3.4” for 1 millisecond of flight.

.408 CheyTac 419 gr. J40/M40 @ 2000 yards,, projectile is 1213 fps (a little better but statistically and tactically insignificant) and covers 4.4” for 1 millisecond of flight time.

The reality is that at that range, none have any advantage and a flight time of 3+ seconds is too long for any realistic shot on a non-material target. As a professional shooter, I would challenge any CheyTac shooter to a head to head shoot against a .50 BMG shooting AMAX and any .338 Lapua shooting the 270 gr. LRBT bullet.

With the above things in mind. The .408 suffers the following real world disadvantages.

.408 vs. .338 on weight = you can get a .338 Lapua in at 17 lbs easy. Lightest weight for a .408 repeater is 26 lbs. They do make a single shot rifle that they can get down to about 17 lbs, but recoil management is a serious issue. You can make a gun too light to be good with it.

.408 vs. .338 on cost. = You can have a .338 Lapua from H&S Precision for 2100.00 in their HTR rifle. Dakota Arms, which is a very fine rifle, is 4400.00. The .408 M200 military gun from Cheytac is 12,000.00. (If they sold you one, right now, they like to claim military only, but no military is buying any.

On Tactical edge. The .408 can go a little farther supersonic, but both guns real world range is 2000 yards based on supersonic speed. The realistic max flight time for any shot is about 2.5 seconds. This is around 1500 meters for all three gun platforms.

At that speed, all three mentioned are about the same for flight time. 2.5 seconds for the 338 Lapua, 2.5 seconds for the 408 CheyTac and 2.6 seconds for the .50 / AMAX combination. I would challenge anyone to point out the edge of one of those cartridges vs. the other. .408 looses on weight, cost, and factory work on the guns, non-standard parts, etc. All things compared, cost, precision, range, flight time, etc., the .338 Lapua is the easy winner.

The .408 had the advantage, but Cheytac burned that away by changing a gun in ways they knew nothing about. They lost velocity over the original guns, which were all at 3050 fps and had a real advantage.

On my recommendation for a tactical 1500 meter gun is the .338 Lapua. Prairie Gun Works of Canada, Dakota Arms, one built by McBros, H&S Precision, personally, I build my own. I would use a Prairie Gun Works Timberwolf action, a Lawton barrel (made to my specs), a McMillan A5 stock. Install a cantilever metal block system instead of a conventional bedding job, put a suppressor on it, and use a Schmidt & Bender PII Marksman sight with 100 MOA of elevation, expensive, but nice. That setup will smoke a .408 all day long. The trick is you'll have to use the 270 gr. LRBT J40 match bullet, or you won't have the supersonic range the .408 has. If you use the 250 gr. Lapua Scenar bullet, you loose 400 yards of supersonic range and the .338 Lapua drops out of the race against the .50 AMAX setup and the .408 CheyTac.

I've been in the special operations sniping community on the operations side, training side and material development side. I shot the very first .338 Lapua when it was called the .338/.416 back in 1987 and have been seeing it mature since then. It's time now. I believe the .338 Lapua will be the new hot sniping round. It's been adopted in England, Canada, turkey, and several other countries as the standard sniping round. I think there will always be .308 guns; you couldn't run a training program on .338s alone. Barrels would not survive the heat generated by excessive shooting.

The more interesting setup is the .375/.408, using a LRBT built .375 projectile with a .930 G1 ballistic co-efficient at a speed of 3250 fps. Those are serious numbers.

Well thats it. Thats my max, and I don't even think I would ever reach as far up as a 338 lapua in a lightweight, compact sniper system.

I've been talking a lot with my buddy about caliber selection and such. Also about what platform would be best for this "ultimate" cartridge. Weight is one concern. Along with portability, recoil, immediate and long term cost, and tons of other considerations.

So how do I start? I thought what are the end requirements for the system meaning what do I intend to do with it. Maybe a short list is in order.

1. Easily carry able by one person.
2. Light enough to run with. gun AND gear.
3. Cost effective in terms of ammo. cuz ya still gotta practice.
4. small drop and drift.
5. defeats armor. I'll explain why later.

Now this is not a complete list. But as time goes by i'll be adding small tidbits of info to this to see what fleshes out. Now another thing I wanted to do was compile a list of possible scenario's where the system would come into play. Keep in mind that I look at this through a civilians perspective. Police and military will come into play as I add them.

Keep in mind these scenario's will probably never happen but how else can I start without throwing some BS out there.

1. The riots have hit my part of town! ..... yes "again". And now its 3 am and all hell has broken loose in my neighborhood. I look out the window of my second story room and see vandals trying to break into a buddy's house a block away. I grab the rifle and take aim.

Now I know I left a lot out of that one. Like how do I know they are "unfriendly's"? Well this is one. I'm not saying its perfect but I have no real instances to go with

2. The Riots continue. 2pm I walk to the main street to run to the market to try and salvage some grub for me and my own. I look down the main street and see a group of baddies, fully armed and armored, walking down the street along side a slow moving convoy of cars, shooting whatever they see move, throwing Molotov's at the buildings they pass (wow! what an imagination). They are about 3 street lights away and closing. I find a good position to engage and take aim.

Holy crap! I should be writing books!!!!! But anyway these are what-ifs. And they are a hell of a lot better that the stupid zombie crap i've been seeing on the forums. SHTF my ass!!!

Well then the start of this is out there. In the coming .. months i'll be scouring the net, asking guys at the range, and asking some industry peoples about this. Whatever I come up with I'll post. Please leave your thoughts on this matter. Calibers, platforms, scenario's, comments, and critiques are all welcome.

Not wanting to acknowledge the most basic human need of sex, she quickly diverted her argument to that of a "emotional" one.

THE BIGGEST WEAK POINT OF ANY ARGUMENT!
Of course we control ourselves not to beat others into a fine pulp when we get pissed off. Thats control. But to argue against what brought two people together in the first place AND what supposedly keeps them together is pure fallacy.

What about your old boyfriend? What about when you get drunk? What if and when you get tired of me? What if you cheat on me? What happens to those special feelings? Did they mean anything? What am I left with? How is it that your inability suddenly turned into an all out orgy when unexpected conditions where introduced? To think a womans "better" judgment is what keeps us men in line makes me cringe.

Now my girlfriend has closed off the lines of communication and I proudly sit writing this little post. Maybe in the near future, shows like "Oprah" and "The Hills" will give the fairer sex an inkling on how to act realistically with their better half.......... But I won't hold my breath.

Its previous version was a 14" heavy profiled but was later changed to a 16" medium heavy to save weight. Now if you can see the coating that is nickel boron. And that doesn't make things cheap. How to sneak into the E3. How I've wanted to do this for 10 friggin years. But anyway, on to the meat of this mission. I work during the buildup of this show and found that security is VERY lacking. It was fairly simple. I sneak into a bathroom in a hall before the show begins. I change how I look. Wait till 1 hour after the show starts to mix into the croud. Yes there is a preperatory phase and it goes something like this. Heres what to pack.
a. 2 disposable razors
b. 1 mirror
c. 1 shirt
d. 1 pair of shoes
e. colored contacts
f. eye drops
g. the fake badge
h. 1 expo bag
I'm still a bit oblivious arent I? :) How do you get into the hall "BEFORE" the show starts? There are several ways. The show has to be setup a couple of weeks in advance. Security is at all entrances but they are very lax. If you claim to be one of the contractors for the buildup then claim to be picking up your wristband from another part of the expo that will keep lazy security off your butt so you can make entry in a nearby bathroom. Ok how about another way in? You can always apply for work for "Staff pro" or any of the other security groups that are contracted for the show. You'll have access to the interior and the timing will be better for when you make your move to infiltrate the show. The fake badge? Simple. The Internet! Do a google image search for E3 badge and your golden. Print the sucker up and place it into a plastic badge holder and thats it. Remember that they scan the badges at the entrance of the halls so you have to change in the bathrooms inside the hall.

This one is FN's new rifle. Lets hope THIS makes it to the Americas troops sometime in the future. The Armalite has run its course. Just between you and me though, I'd love one of those SCAR-H rifles chambered in the 500 Phantom with a suppressor. And finish it off with a surefire M900AB and an ACOG and you got yourself one spicy meatball!

Was on the the forums at www.ar15.com and found a thread started by Marty ter Weeme from www.TeppoJutsu.com . What interested me the most was that he mentioned the 338. rhino. From what Marty says it will have 93% of the 338 lapua magnums performance in a 2.8" package. Oh can you imagine.... all those bolt action shooters burning with envy at the sight of a semi auto sniper with kick ass ballistics.

The reason i'm going all "girly" because of this cartridge is because of its delivery system. A rifle that is lighter than any 50bmg, 408cheytac, or 338lapua magnum YET with better ballistic than rifles of the same size. Its perfect.

Went to the Aquarium of the Pacific today, and boy am I tired. I went with my 3yo daughter and it seems she outlasted me. its only 4:30 and i feel like taking a nap. I guess I am getting old.

i own a 1997 ford thunderbird. the damn thing is beutiful. mille miglia evo 5's at 18", koni adjustable shocks, eibach springs, 3" catback exhuast, and xenon ground effects all around. anywho its high time i fixed up the engine..... sooooo i found a twin turbo for a mustang that im hoping i can convert to my thunderbird.

well i thought i would start this day off by giving anyone reading this a small pearl of wisdom.

take two different guns of varying barrel lengths.
take two different cartridges with different case lengths.
If the muzzle velocity, and ballistic coefficient are the same in both........
They will have the same trajectory regardless of bullet weight.

example.. although unlikely.. take a .223 with a 10" barrel and a .50bmg with a 24" barrel. they both shoot a subsonic round with the bullet having the same BC. The bullets they shoot will have the same trajectory.
